The naltrexone implants are inserted in the lower abdominal wall using a sterile procedure under local anaesthetic.
We began to use these in 2002. The implant consists of pellets approximately 0.5cm x 0.5cm in size. These are inserted under the skin using two syringes each containing ten pellets. They will be inserted in the lower abdominal wall using a sterile procedure under local anaesthetic. A 2cm incision is made and the implant inserted. It will be closed with 4 sutures.
